Montelukast or Azithromycin for Reduction of Inhaled Corticosteroids in Childhood Asthma (MARS)
Check it out.....this study is being funded by the NIH! Hopefully there will be some good results. No one can deny the credibility of the NIH.

Nice find, Jess! (no school today?!! )
I believe Dr. Hahn is affiliated with some of the studies they do at the University of WI, Department of Medicine.
I wonder how they can make this claim: "It has not been previously studied to help reduce the dose of inhaled corticosteroids in asthma, so for this reason, our use of Azithromycin is considered investigational."
How are you feeling?

Thanks for asking about me.... Until early this week, I was doing fairly well. The Zithromax was working slowly, but it did seem to be having an effect. I've been eating MUCH better lately, and I was coughing less and getting out of the house more. As you know, I have other issues besides the asthma, so my body has a lot to cope with. I've had a bit more congestion this week though. Don't know why, and it's worrying me, but hopefully it will pass. I'm considering adding doxycycline to the Zithromax to see if that will help it work faster. Given my history and the effects I've seen in the past from antibiotics, I think it's fairly likely that I do have some sort of infection, and anyway, I have nothing to lose.
Nope, no school today, or any other day for that matter. I graduated high school last year, and I couldn't go to college this year because of my health. That's why I absolutely have to get this asthma under control - it is completely ruining my life.
I'll keep you posted.

Don't get discouraged, Jess. It sounds like it's working. This antibiotic has an anti-inflammatory effect, so that could have been helping you, and then this week you're finding it's really kicking in and starting to clear things up in your lungs. A lot of people go through periods like this - which generally means the antibiotic is doing its job!
Hang in there. How many weeks have you been on the Azithromycin?
